5.2 Programming Public Space

Last Updated: 6-9-2017Print page

Residents, organizations, and businesses can program public space within the right-of-way with the help of the SDOT¬†Public Space Management Program. ¬†Parklets, Streateries, and Sidewalk cafes can enliven public spaces and promote economic vitality for nearby businesses. Residents, organizations, and businesses can help to program public art, add pole banners, street murals, and traffic signal box artwork in their neighborhoods to help create safer and more attractive streets. Public space can also be temporarily activated with neighborhood block parties, play streets, adaptive streets, Farmer’s Markets, or by taking advantage of a festival street. Special citywide events like Park(ing) Day take place in the right-of-way and encourage everyone to rethink how streets can be used.
