This image is a plan view of an intersection. It shows crosswalk curb ramp triggers. Refer to the SDOT policy memorandum dated August 5, 2015 for direction on assessment of existing curb ramps for ADA compliance. Refer to the SDOT technical memorandum dated June 18 2015 for companion ramp installation requirements. Alaterations taht occur within the legal or marked crosswalk trigger curb ramp improvement obligations but maintenance activities do not. 1) Alternations in the legal crosswalk trigger curb ramp improvement obligations at associated locations where existing compliant curb ramps are not present. Note: The legal crosswalk is defined as the portion of the roadway between the intersection area and a prologation or connection of the farthest sidewalk line; if there is no sidewalk, the crosswalk is defined from the intersection area to a line offset 10', except as modified by a marked crosswalk. (RCW 46.04.160). Exception: Restorations in the legal or marked crosswalk limited to 12' in width does not trigger curb ramp improvement obligations. 2) Alternations in the marked crosswalk trigger curb ramp improvement obligations at associated locations where existing compliant curb ramps are not present.
